Fill. Sculpt. Refine.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a family of injectable cosmetic products designed to enhance volume in targeted areas. They offer extreme versatility, filling fine lines and wrinkles and sculpting features for enhanced facial harmony and youthful results. At Luminous Medical Aesthetics in Woodland Hills dermal fillers, are offered in a variety of trusted hyaluronic acid-based options including Juvederm, Restylane, and Revanesse products.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance within the body that holds moisture and supports cellular renewal. Our hyaluronic acid-based fillers offer immediate volume and long-lasting rejuvenation. These specially formulated fillers mimic natural tissues to produce results that look and feel authentic.

PRP (Platelet-rich Plasma)

For those who would like to address volume loss but with a more natural approach, PRP is a great alternative. PRP is a substance derived from the blood that contains a concentrated number of growth factors. Once extracted from a small blood sample, PRP can be injected into targeted areas to restore volume and improve skin texture, tone, and elasticity. Injection of PRP helps stimulate collagen and elastin production. PRP is a great alternative for those who prefer a more natural treatment.

Rejuvenation In Under An Hour

Your Dermal Filler Procedure

In most cases, dermal filler injections take less than an hour to administer, although the details of your procedure can vary depending on your specific needs. For all injectable procedures, Dr. Shaden uses ultrasound, allowing her to plan the location of each injection with optimal precision and safety. Dr. Shaden will sterilize the treatment area and may apply a numbing solution or ice pack before administering your injections. Using ultrasound guidance, she will inject the dermal filler in the targeted area or areas.

Settle Into A Refreshed Look

Dermal Filler Recovery and Aftercare

You may experience some mild swelling, redness, or bruising around injection sites. You can minimize these minor side effects with a cold compress. It will take about two weeks for your filler to settle fully, so you should avoid rubbing or applying pressure to treated areas. Avoid dental work for at least two weeks after filler injections. You may take acetaminophen/Tylenol if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort. Avoid heavy exercise on the day of your treatment. Avoid sleeping on your stomach or side for 24 hours post-treatment to prevent dispersing of the product. Wait for 2 - 4 weeks before receiving any skin or laser treatments. If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact our office immediately: Dusky or white discoloration of the injected areas, mottling or unusual bruising, severe or increasing pain, redness, increasing warmth or coolness to touch, or severe swelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dermal filler is contraindicated in those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, allergic to components of dermal fillers, have lidocaine allergy, or have open sores in the areas to be treated. Notify your provider if you have any bleeding/blood clotting disorders or if you have an autoimmune disorder and/or are taking any immunosuppressive/injectable medications.

Schedule your injection at a time when minor swelling or bruising will not disrupt your social obligations. To decrease the likelihood of bleeding or bruising, discontinue the use of blood thinning products for a week before treatment, if approved by your primary care provider. Alcohol should be avoided 24 hours pre or post injectable treatment, as it is also a blood thinner. Notify your provider if you have any history of cold sores, as we will consider pre-medicating with an antiviral prescription before injections. Cancel your appointment if you have any open sores in the treatment area.

Your results may last 6 months to even 2 years. Longevity depends on the area treated, the type of filler used, and your body’s metabolism.

At Luminous Medical Aesthetic, we use hyaluronic acid (HLA) based dermal fillers which can be dissolved by injecting hyaluronidase. If anything about the outcome is not what you were expecting, targeted dissolve of the unwanted filler is performed using ultrasound guidance. HLA is a naturally occurring chemical in your body. HLA-based dermal fillers are absorbed by the body naturally over time.

You should wait to eat until the numbing agent has worn off after having lip augmentation. Also, avoid foods that are difficult to eat for 24 hours to avoid wiping the lips so soon after injection.

Results last anywhere from six months to 2 years. You will need periodic touch-up treatments to maintain plump, natural-looking results.

The FDA has approved Dermal Fillers as safe and effective for restoring volume and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles in the face. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring chemical in your body that has several functions. However, some side effects include redness, itching, and discomfort at the injection site. These symptoms should subside within 24 hours. However, if you have any worsening symptoms such as swelling, pain, redness, or discoloration of the skin, contact the office immediately.

After dental work or a cold/flu, your immune system can cause a reaction at sites of previous dermal filler placement which may include redness, swelling, nodules, or pain. Contact the office if you have such symptoms, dissolving the filler may be warranted.

Each of our Woodland Hills Dermal Filler treatments is customized for each patient based on specific cosmetic requirements. During your appointment, your provider will assess the number of injections recommended for optimal results and will also discuss the cost of your procedure.
